How can I get my son a haircut without him screaming?

He 2 1/2 and hates to have his haircut. He cries and screams and we just have to hold him still. We've tried everything from distracting him with his favorite toys to offering m%26amp;m's to bribing him with a trip to the store to buy a new toy if he is good during the haircut. The girl who cuts it tried once to let him sit and watch cartoons while she cut it, but that didn't work either. Any ideas? It's exhausting for all of us!!How can I get my son a haircut without him screaming?
try this. have the person that is cutting his hair let him hold and feel the devices that are going to cut his hair. this way the child can see for himself that they are not going to hurt him. sometimes with kids like this, it helps if you introduce the things to them first before you use them. hope this helps. good luck. How can I get my son a haircut without him screaming?
Where is he getting his hair cut?

My son always sits better at the salon than he does at home.
Some cities have hair salons just for kids. Try seeing if there is one in your city. They are good to kids and know how to deal with them.
Try looking for a place that specializes in kids haircuts....we take my son to a place like that and they are very good about working around his head turning and other issues.
Sometimes the sound of the clippers are scary to kids at that age. Especially when they are coming toward their head.

I think you should let him hold the clippers, and let him turn them on and off. If that still doesn't work, maybe try hand cutting with scissors.

Also, a special towel for his eyes will help keep him more comfortable too...
A lollipop during the cut.
Try looking for a salon that is especially designed for kids. Where I live there is a salon that has airplanes and carousal horses for the kids to sit on, and the hairdressers deal with children all day so they usually have a couple of tricks up their sleeves.
Try taking him to one that is just for kids. my son had so much hair that he had his first haircut at 8 months and was good for the first few at the two year old mark he cried so much and had to sit in my husbands lap. He got a cookie and lollipop after and hasn't cried since he is now 31 months old.

momof4
try doing it yourself at home
try giving him a lollipop when he sits down on the chair. and let him know if he throws a fit you will take it away. or give him a doll and have him cut the doll's hair. see, the doll doesn't cry!
Maybe if you or your hubby or both sat across from him and got your hair cut also , Or at least faked it

I used to cut my kids bangs while she was sleeping

Or maybe wait till hes a little older and just let it grow for now,,,

Sounds like you have tried everything else
Lollipop? My kids knew it is supposed to come ';after'; the haircut, but it sure kept them entertained well DURING the haircut!

good luck, and, he WILL grow out of it, hopefully sooner rather than later!
try showing him it's not scary maybe. have him cut a strand of your hair once. but dont let him get carried away. lol
Will he sit on your lap during a haircut? We do this with our 18 month old and it helps. Also, try taking a break halfway thru the haircut. Let him run around for a few minutes and then have the stylist finish the cut. Good luck.
Chloroform.
