If so, they might be using a shampoo that works good with your skin...and it could also be you aren't scrubbing your head well enough when you wash your hair. Make sure your really massage the shampoo into the scalp. I would recommend a product like Nutragena (sp?) which helps with flakes and itching. You could have regular dandruff, or a condition like sebborhic eczema, which causes flaking and itching. Go ahead and switch shampoos, and if the itching continues, see a dermatologist. Sounds more like a skin problem to me. Take it from someone who knows. The best thing you can do right now is to get a medicated shampoo like Denorex or Selsun Blue. Use that for a while since it sounds like you have some skin issues. Check with a professional stylist to see what you should do after that. Sounds like you have longer hair, but the length shouldn't cause your head to itch. If it's greasy, there might be some repercussions from that.
I dont think it's due to not having a haircut... unless it hasnt been washed. I think itchy scalp is usually due to it being dry. I would suggest that you wash it with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.
No the ends of your hair does not affect the scalp, unless you had your head shaved and as your was growing back in it might itch but not after 8 months.
